Rwanda Eyes E-commerce Success – Ambassador Kayonga

At the invitation of the China Ministry of Commerce and Beijing Municipality, Ambassador Charles Kayonga yesterday attended the 2019 China E-commerce Convention at National Convention Centre in Beijing.

Under the theme of ‘Data driving, opening-up and merging development’, China E-commerce Convention attracts trade ministers, representatives of international organizations, business leaders and local authorities to exchange views on utilization of e-commerce.

“The government of Rwanda is encouraging all businesses and individuals to embrace e-commerce as part of the strategy to digitize the country economy,” said Ambassador Kayonga

Ambassador Kayonga was speaking during the panel discussion along with other Ambassadors of different embassies in Beijing, business leaders and local leaders.

Rwanda eyes to benefit from e-commerce, following the agreement between the government of Rwanda and Alibaba to build the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP). Ambassador noted.

The envoy further told the audience that, Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Rwanda are taking advantage of digital markets where virtually no physical borders will inhibit them from selling their products to the global market.

Since launched in 2011, China E-commerce Convention has become a mainstream platform for information sharing, project cooperation and matching, and mutual learning in the E-commerce field.

China E-commerce Convention is happening at the margins of the 70 years anniversary of the founding of new China, making it the critical year for building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
